'Old Way Love’ is our first listen to Melbourne talent Spectoral, a bittersweet tale of unrequited love, crushing hard and being relegated to the 'friendzone'. It’s a story as old as time, as old as love itself, and yet the Australian delivers this human condition in the light of futuristic soul and high-spec pop. There’s something almost celebratory about ‘Old Way Love’, as the single revels in the inner beauty of his intended’s heart, although his pain can be heard in his repeated desire: “I wish I knew how to say how I feel.” It would appear that Spectoral did find a way after all - although not spoken, he sings openly and honestly about this fear of rejection, but rather than opting for another cry-into-my-pillow ballad, he injects some much needed pop and soul music life into it. - Hannah Thacker
